Pangot: Where the Himalayan Canopies Sing
You'll find Pangot sitting in a quiet, bowl shaped mountain valley, perched at 1,984 meters (6,510 ft) up. It's only 15 kilometers past the Cheena Peak ridge, just behind Nainital.
Honest first impressions? This place surprised me. The Kilbury and Sigri Wildlife Sanctuary wraps around Pangot with thick mixed broadleaf forest, moss hanging off Himalayan oak, pine, and scarlet rhododendron trees everywhere you look. Birders travel here from across the world. The sanctuary draws over 580 species of resident and migratory birds, and the canopy stays loud from dawn to dusk.
