Kanatal: Where Clouds Touch the Deodar Canopies
Kanatal (8,500 ft) got its name from an ancient sacred lake, long dried up now into green meadows, and it's tucked between Mussoorie and Chamba in Tehri Garhwal. A proper mountain hideaway.
Thing is, Kanatal isn't one of those packed commercial hill stations. The forests here still feel wild, thick with deodar, pine, and wild rhododendrons, and mornings ring out with Himalayan birds calling back and forth. From almost every ridgeline camp you get this 180 degree sweep of snow giants, Bandarpoonch, Chaukhamba, Trishul, Mt. Nanda Devi all lined up across the horizon.
Kaudia Forest Jeep Safari
A 6 kilometer trail cuts through virgin deodar jungle. You'll spot barking deer, musk deer, wild boars, and if you're lucky, the flash of a Himalayan monal pheasant in the undergrowth.
Tehri Dam Water Sports
Just a 45 minute drive (35 km) from camp. Tehri Lake is where you go for jet skiing, speed boating, banana rides, and bobbing around in those floating water huts on that crazy turquoise water.
